Question:
Hi There, I have a facial scar from a surfing injury I would like to have corrected. The scar is approximately 7cms in length on my left cheek. I would like to know what options there are in correcting such a scar. I'm 35, non smoker and quite fit. Thanks, Trevor.
Answer:
Scars can be treated in various ways and the biggest factor is " How old is the scar?"New scars should be treated with Silicone, massage and kept out of the sun for 3-6 months to get the best possible result. Once the scar has matured and is still not acceptable a scar revision may help. This will involve excsising the scar surgeically and repairing the wound precisily to get the best possible result. The difference being that a traumatic injury will cause more tissue than a controlled surgical revision and the result of the surgical revision should then be a less obvious scar. Remember though there is no way to totally remove a scar.
