Do Breast Implants
Breast implants, like most medical devices, aren’t designed to last forever. Eventually, most patients will need additional procedures or replacements. In rare cases, implants may also be associated with health complications such as lymphoma or squamous cell carcinoma, even years after the initial surgery. Regular checks are the best way to monitor and manage these risks.
Why Checking Your
Regular checks of your breast implants are an essential part of your long-term health. Whether you’ve recently undergone breast augmentation or it’s been years since your procedure, routine implant examinations help identify issues early, maintain your wellbeing, and provide ongoing peace of mind.
How Often Should
To stay ahead of potential complications, we recommend an annual physical examination of your implants. Additionally, breast imaging is advised every 2 to 3 years. Women aged 40 and over should also undergo regular mammograms every two years as part of their overall breast health routine.
Understanding
Some patients report symptoms like fatigue, joint pain, or cognitive issues, collectively known as Breast Implant Illness. While ongoing research continues, regular checks ensure any concerning symptoms are reviewed and addressed early.
Capsular contracture occurs when scar tissue around your implant hardens and tightens, causing discomfort or changes in breast appearance. It is common and can often be resolved through corrective procedures.
Natural changes in your body due to aging, pregnancy, or weight fluctuations may impact breast shape and feel, even with implants. Routine checks help manage these natural changes effectively.
Conditions like autoimmune diseases, hormonal changes, or certain medications can influence your body’s interaction with implants. Regular assessments help Dr Hoffman tailor your care accordingly.
This rare form of lymphoma, linked primarily to textured implants, typically presents as swelling or lumps long after the surgery. Early detection through routine screening greatly improves outcomes, making regular checks crucial.
