Breast augmentations are a popular choice amongst many clients, and implants have come a long way to be as durable as possible, but don’t last forever. For patients who currently have breast implants, regular check ups are important when considering breast implant health and revisional surgery.
Breast implant check-ups can be done as part of a regular surgical check to ensure proper implant health and placement, in response to a particular concern, or for patients who feel they either need to have their implants replaced or removed.
Dr Jeremy Hunt performs thorough and informative breast implant checks that can provide a clear image of your breast implant health, and guidance on whether breast implant revisional surgery is needed. If needed, Dr Jeremy Hunt can provide a course of direction and plan for revisional replacement or removal surgery.

There are many reasons to understand your breast implant health, from general timely checks to specific concerns.
Change in the shape and feel of your breast. This can be due to capsular contracture causing a change in the dynamic of the breast tissue and the implant, as the body responds negatively to foreign materials
Dissatisfaction with implant size. This can be from changes in satisfaction of a patient’s original implant size, or due to changes in a patient’s weight, size or post-pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Rotation or breast implant movement. If the implant and breast are not ‘moving as one’ due to implant rotation, revisional surgery may be needed.
BIA-ALCL. Breast implant associated-anaplastic large cell lymphoma can cause dangerous complications if not checked and acted on. Patients concerned about this may decide to remove their breast implants completely to reduce the risk of this.
Ruptures. An implant may completely rupture or leak if the shell of an implant is compromised. Patients with a leak or rupture will have their ruptured implant removed, and in some cases either part of the capsule surrounding the implant or a total capsulectomy if preferred.
The Dr Jeremy Hunt clinic currently runs an initial ‘virtual’ clinic assessment, completed by our practice nurse Laura. An initial assessment includes a questionnaire provided to the patient to assess their breast implant and health history.
Once your assessment is complete, an ultrasound and thorough consultation is booked with Dr Hunt. Whether you are interested in a routine examination to check an implant that has been in for many years, or have a specific concern, the initial ultrasound offers a non-invasive check of your implants and their current state.
If the ultrasound shows a leak in the implant, further assessment can be performed by MRI, or a patient can choose to book in revisional surgery.
For patients opting for revisional surgery, you will be able to make an informed choice to completely remove or replace your implants. For replacement implants, Dr Hunt will discuss implant size and shape for your satisfaction and desired result. For implant removal, Dr Hunt will go through how to achieve your desired aesthetic result which may involve removing excess skin and changing the height of the nipple for a natural looking result.
Breast implant revision requires thorough knowledge and experience with breast surgery.
