FAQs
Should I have a Male neck lift (platysmaplasty)?
If you are concerned about skin laxity or excess fat around the neck, then you might be a candidate for platysmaplasty surgery.
However, any surgery is a big and highly personal decision. That’s why Dr Hunt personally meets with each and every potential patient to discuss their situation and goals. During this consultation, Dr Hunt will explain male neck lift platysmaplasty surgery in detail, as well as evaluate your neck and face.
Dr Hunt will then recommend which neck surgery he feels will be most appropriate according to your characteristics and desired results. Different techniques include liposuction (removal of excess fat), cervicoplasty (removal of excess skin) and/or platysmaplasty (tightening of the skin.)
What's involved in male neck surgery?
After choosing your preferred hospital, male platysmaplasty will be performed under general anaesthetic by one of Dr Hunt’s carefully selected anaesthetist partners, all of whom are members of the Australian Society of Anaesthetists. Your safety and care is Dr Hunt’s number one priority.
Your surgery may entail one or more of the following procedures:
- Liposuction: Dr Hunt will make a small incision below your chin to remove any excess fat from the neck area
- Cervicoplasty: Dr Hunt will make small incisions behind your ears or under your chin to remove any excess skin
- Platysmaplasty: Dr Hunt will make small incisions at your hairline or behind your ears to tighten any loose muscles and stretch any excess skin
Your neck lift (platysmaplasty) surgery may take anywhere between one and three hours, depending on the procedures required.
When can I go home after platysmaplasty surgery for men?
After your male neck lift (platysmaplasty) surgery, you will stay in hospital overnight. Once you’re discharged, you’ll be given a prescription for pain medication to help with any further discomfort. Cold packs can also help.
Will I have to return for post-operative care?
You’ll see Dr Hunt during the days following your surgery. All sutures will be removed around one week after your procedure.
You will then have follow up visits with Dr Hunt at six weeks, six months and 12 months.
How long will I be off work after a neck lift (platysmaplasty)?
You should allow around 10-14 days off work.
When can I resume my normal activities after surgery?
When you get home from hospital after your surgery, you’ll relax in bed for the first couple of days. It’s important not to move around too much at this very early stage.
You should not increase your heart rate above 100 beats per minute for the first three weeks after surgery, and must sleep with your head elevated on two pillows for the first week to 10 days.
However, you will be able to wash your face and take care of your incisions two days after your surgery, and wash your hair the day after this.
When will I see the end result of a male neck lift (platysmaplasty) surgery?
You can expect to see the final result of your male platysmaplasty approximately six weeks after your surgery. At this stage, you will meet with Dr Hunt to discuss your results.
